From Marlvin-James Dadzie, Takoradi
It was a scene of shock for many members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western Region yesterday, when a recently disqualified parliamentary aspirant of the party showed a great sign of dedication and humility by making a huge donation towards the NPP’s 2020 campaign.
Mr. Fredrick Kakraba Sam Inkoom, a former NPP parliamentary aspirant for Takoradi, proved to his critics that he is not habouring any ill motive against his party when he presented 20 motorcycles, four communication gadgets, stationary and 400 ablution kettles, all amounting to Ghc100,000 to the NPP Western Region secretariat.
He also donated an undisclosed amount of cash to the party. The donation was done through his foundation under the name Frederick Kakraba Sam Foundation.
Mr. Frederick Kakraba Sam Inkoom showed up to contest in the recently held NPP Parliamentary Primaries for the Takoradi Constituency, however, he was disqualified by the vetting committee under bizarre circumstances.
Some of his supporters at the time, pointed accusing fingers at his main contender who is the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Takoradi, Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah who doubles as the Western Regional Minister, for orchestrating his disqualification.
Some of his critics felt he was going to stop supporting the NPP as a result of his disqualification.
But, speaking at the donation ceremony, Mr. Kakraba Sam said despite his unfair disqualification, he wanted to demonstrate to the world that he is a true NPP member.
He stressed that though his disqualification was unfair, he remains dedicated to the NPP.
According to him, there have been several calls on him by NPP members to run as an independent parliamentary candidate for the Takoradi Constituency but he has rejected all those calls because he remains loyal to the NPP.
“So I’m using this opportunity to call on all my colleague aspirants who were disqualified either fairly or unfairly to put everything aside and rally their support behind the party…
“I’m calling on particularly those in the Takoradi Constituency to throw their support behind Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah who’s the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Takoradi and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to ensure a decisive win for the NPP on December 7”, he said.
He was hopeful that the donation would boost the NPP campaign in the Western Region.
The NPP Western Regional Chairman, Mr. Francis Ndede Siah, who received the items on behalf of the party, thanked Mr. Kakraba Sam Inkoom for the kind gesture.
He promised to put the items into good use to ensure that NPP win the December polls.
He urged other NPP members to emulate the good example set by Mr. Frederick Kakraba Sam Inkoom.
