Vice President Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia’s campaign team for his flagbearership bid, and the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso constituency in the Ashanti region, Dr Stephen Amoah, over the weekend, were the targets of flaks and opens-insults by the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, who is also canvassing votes to lead the New Patriotic Party(NPP) into the 2024 general elections.
The Assin Central MP described the campaign team of the vice president as one which has no message for the rank-and-file of the party and the people Dr. Bawumia wants to lead.
He was speaking at Nhyiaeso during his Kennedy for 2024 tour, where he also inferred that without him nobody could win the 2024 general election for the NPP.
For Dr. Stephen Amoah, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong described as a coward, who could not speak up for what he wanted, saying “Your MP is a coward. By Now he should be a substantive minister but he lacks the courage to stand up for what he wants so look at what they gave him.”
Kennedy Agyapong is not the only candidate who has subjected the Vice President to barrages of attacks. During the ‘aduro me so’ walk through the principal streets of Accra, some weeks ago, supporters of Alan Kyerematen, the former minister of Trade and industry, who has been criss-crossing the country with his message to lead the country also rained many unprintable words on the Bawumia campaign team.
Already nine aspirants have declared their intention to lead the party.
The Vice President appears to be the lead contender out of nine others in the flagbearer race of the NPP, hence the blistering attacks on his person and campaign team.
The rest are: former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, and Francis Addai Nimo, former MP for Essikado-Ketan, Joe Ghartey, former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyapong, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
Meanwhile, this paper has gathered that the attacks would intensify when the Dr. Bawumia officially announces his intention to contest the flagbearership race in a yet-to-be announced event which would be televised to the country in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned
