The Director for Planning and Programs for the National Road Safety Authority, Ing. David Osafo Adonteng, has announced short code 194 to all network for the general public to report unsafe road – user behavior.
This, he explained, is a step the authority has taken to ensure that our roads are safe since they cannot be everywhere.
According to Mr. Adonteng, this is a step in a right direction to establish a Road Safety information/Call Center to receive reports and relay same to the appropriate authorities for immediate action or redress.
Mr. Adonteng said this at a meeting with a group of communicators to equip and update them on the “Stay Alive Campaign” the second phase of the “Arrive Alive” Champaign” which was launched in Accra last week.
“The general public is to use their mobile phone to report any reckless driving, unsafe road -user behavior, excessive speeding, Driving Tried, Pedestrian jaywalking etc”, Mr. Adonteng stated.
He indicated that road safety is a collective responsibility and so everyone should get involved.
“When one report any case on reckless driving, the victim would be fine and out of the fine the reporter would be rewarded,” Mr.Adonteng explained.
He said this would encourage the public to get involved with the war against indiscipline and reduce road traffic crashes.
He further added that the authority was also working on an APP called PEEP, where people can download capture video of wrong/unsafe road-user behavior or road safety threat and send it to the authority.
He therefore urged the general public to make good use of the short code 194 and not misuse it.
