Energy expert, Kwadwo Nsafoa Poku and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, last Wednesday, took his bid to lead his party into the 2024 general election an octave higher when he filed his nominations form at the party’s headquarters, in Accra.
Accompanied by a crowed he described as his family, the entrepreneur with twenty-one (21) years’ experience in Ghana’s energy sector said the submission of his form was a “signal to the youth and everyone to aspire to be able to do something like this.”
“When I started this process, I was told that I can’t pick a form. That when I go, they won’t give me the form. Then I picked the form. ‘Oh, I can’t file’, today, Inshallah I have filed. I am sure the next thing they would say is I won’t go for vetting. There is a lot of people who don’t know about me, I have been a very staunch supporter of NPP for so many years, a card bearing member and I have sat and thought through this thing long and high, and I know I can do it,” Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku asserted.
Mr. Poku entreated all other contenders to make the delegates election “a contest of ideas, a contest to change their party and a contest to change our country.”
“The contest is not about who is popular, yes,” he averred, adding that “when I started 18 months ago lot of people didn’t know who I was but today KNP is now a household name and not just KMP being a household name, I do want to be an inspiration. Today am 49-years and would be 50yrs next year. Now somebody would see that 49-years-old is trying to run for a president. By my inspiration and step, very soon we would see 42 years old trying to do this same thing. That is what I want to set. It is not about having a grey hair, and trying to look for Yombo (hair-dye), it is not about not going through the ranks. Everyone has to do their things in their own form.”
He also encouraged the youth to dream big, that the young people should not wait to turn sixty to begin to have big dreams. The Chairman and CEO of FKP & Rald Investment Ltd disclosed that after the submission of the forms all the aspirants would have to go for vetting. Currently the party has changed the timetable and so vetting would start 3rd of July so between now and 3rd of July we are all preparing for vetting which I know I would go through.
