Ghana’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and senior National officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), H.E. Alhaji Said Sinare, has declared that the upcoming Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025, is not just a contest of candidates but a referendum between NDC’s progress and NPP’s past unbearable failures.
Ambassador Alhaji Said Saleh Sinare, a former National Vice Chairman of the NDC, has thrown his weight fully behind the party’s parliamentary candidate, Lawyer Bernard Bediako, urging the people of Akwatia to rally around him as the trusted choice to advance development and protect their future.
“Politics is not a theatre of experiments; it is the sacred assignment of destiny management. And when destiny has been mismanaged before, wisdom demands that we do not return the keys of our collective future into the same reckless hands,” he said.
The veteran politician accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of gross economic mismanagement during its time in office, which he said inflicted unbearable hardship on ordinary Ghanaians.
“The painful truth, which history itself cannot deny, is that the NPP, when entrusted with governance, plunged our economy into unprecedented hardship. Inflation danced uncontrollably, fuel prices climbed the ladder of the heavens, and the cedi became a weak leaf tossed about by the storm of the dollar. Families could not breathe under the yoke of high cost of living, and businesses folded like abandoned mats. That was the reality of NPP’s economic recklessness,” he recounted.
According to him, the current NDC government under President John Dramani Mahama has demonstrated deliberate leadership by stabilizing the cedi, restructuring the economy, and gradually restoring dignity to ordinary citizens.
“Leadership is not noise; leadership is evidence, and evidence is what the NDC under President Mahama is showing. The Akwatia by-election is not merely about Lawyer Bernard Bediako versus another candidate; it is a monumental REFERENDUM between the bitter, agonizing past of NPP misrule and the vibrant, hopeful, and tangible progress of NDC governance,” Alhaji Sinare emphasized.
In a direct appeal to the Zongo communities in Akwatia, Alhaji Sinare urged them to remain steadfast and reject what he described as the deceptive promises of the NPP.
“When the monkey forgets its past, it repeats the same branch that broke it. Do not, for one moment, allow yourselves to be seduced by honeyed lies that once fed you hardship wrapped in deceitful promises. Your vote is your thunderous voice, your thumb is your unyielding strength, and your choice on that crucial day must be guided by memory and by truth,” he charged.
He further issued a stern caution to the NPP, stressing that the NDC will not tolerate acts of intimidation or electoral misconduct in Akwatia.
“Democracy is not a license for thuggery, and elections are not arenas for violence. The 1992 Constitution stands as our unshakeable fortress, and any desperate attempt to subvert the sacred will of Akwatia shall be met with the full, uncompromising force of the law,” Alhaji Sinare warned.
Alhaji Sinare, the National Chairman of the Zongo Caucus Working Committee of the NDC concluded by calling on the electorate to stand with Lawyer Bernard Bediako and the NDC for lasting development and stability in Akwatia.
“On September 2nd, let Akwatia vote with memory, let Akwatia vote with wisdom, and let Akwatia declare through Lawyer Bernard Bediako that the future belongs to the NDC, not the failures of the past,” he declared.
The Akwatia by-election has drawn national attention, with both the ruling NDC and the opposition NPP keenly contesting the seat, which is seen as a critical battleground ahead of the 2028 general elections.
