The death is reported of the founder and medical Director of Pro Vita hospital in Tema, Accra, Dr. Joe Mainoo. He was 77years old.
Dr. Joe Mainoo’s demise occurred on 9th August, 2020, after a brief illness. He was a German trained medical Officer specialized in OBS/GYN who returned to Ghana in 1983 to practice.
In 1985, Dr. Joe Mainoo left the employment of the Ministry of Health and set up his private clinic in Tema; The Pro Vita Specialist Hospital. With time he trained in Invitro Fertilization and assisted reproduction.
He, in 1995, established the first IVF Centre in Africa South of the Sahara in October of the same year where he delivered the first baby impregnated through the IVF technique. Dr. Joe Mainoo in his life time put smiles on many faces and saved many marriages from collapse due to childlessness.
The Doctor, over the past 25 years, successfully delivered several babies from various continent of the world through the technique. The success story includes twins, triplets, quadruplets and quintuplets.
He left behind a wife and Seven (7) adult children.
