Information reaching the New Crusading Guide has confirmed that majority of the President’s nominees for the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) are being rejected by their various Assembly members.

As against several appeals to the people to give an overwhelming endorsement to their nominated MMDCEs, Assembly members in AtwimaNwabiagya South, Kasoa, Yendi among others have rejected their nominees.

Situation at the AtwimaNwabiagya South Municipality was tensed when Assembly Members insisted that the re-nominated Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Michael AmoahAwuku has nothing new to offer the area.

According to them, they are prepared to accept and overwhelmingly endorse any other person but the current MCE nominee who has shown signs of being vindictive, disrespects chiefs and also fails to consult them despite the critical roles they play in the democratic structure would not be accepted.

“We are committed to the pact we have with President Nana AddoDankwaAkufo-Addo but the anchor of that pact in this our area will lead us nowhere reason we have rejected him to send a signal to the president that Awuku is not a unifier and may not help his course”

Meanwhile, Mr. Michal AmoahAwuku who was left disappointed and sweating after the votes had been cast by Assembly Members in the Municipality, was alleged to have gone begging the Assembly members to give him their support.

This paper has also gathered that although some key Regional party executives have gone begging the Assembly members to give him Mr. Michal AmoahAwuku nod, he pulled 19 votes out of 31 assembly members in the municipality.

The Assembly members stood their ground and maintained that either a new person is chosen or they will continue to reject him since he has proven to be incompetent in the handling of affairs.

The nominee was supposed to get two-thirds of the assembly members meaning he needed 21 assembly members to vote YES in order to be approved but fell short.

It would be recalled that, before the appointment of the MMDCEs, some Chiefs and people in the municipality urged President Akufo-Addo not to reappoint him citing instances including his disrespect to traditional authorities and failure to consult them ass development partners.

Series of demonstration and press conferences were organized by the chiefs and the people to appeal to President Akufo-Addo to remove Michael AmoahAwuku from office and appoint a new person to lead the municipality.

The assembly members have 10 days to embark on other elections to decide whether they will confirm or reject President Akufo-Addo’s MCE nominee.

Interestingly, amid the raging controversy, this paper has established that Michael AmoahAwuku has begun lobbying chiefs in the area to resolve any differences ahead of the next voting which is less than 10 days away.

He is alleged to be asking the chiefs who are very influential to tamper justice with mercy by convincing the assembly members to ensure that they rescind their entrench position of not voting for him.

While pleading with the chiefs, attack dogs believed to be loyal to the current MCE have been unleashed on some prominent personalities in the area verbally abusing them on social media further deepening the already existing cracks.

The situation at Yendi was not different. Assembly members of the Yendi Municipal Assembly have also rejected their nominee, Alhaji Ahmed YussufAbubakar.

The assembly members did not give the Alhaji Abubakar the adequate number of votes to get him approved as out of the 41 assembly members who voted, only 21 voted in favour of the nominee, while the remaining 20 rejected his nomination.

Bloody At Kasoa

In Kasoa however, one person has been stabbed while three others have also been injured following a scuffle among New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in Awutu Senya East constituency during the confirmation of the new Municipal Chief Executive for the area.

This comes after supporters of the former MCE Michael Essuman Mensah clashed with loyalists of the new Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East Anita Love Obo Amissah.

According to a communication officer of the NPP in Awutu Senya East constituency, the confusion happened at CP Abeasi where members of the Assembly had gathered to confirm the MCE on Saturday evening September 25, 2021.

He said while the process was on-going, supporters of the former MCE stormed the venue with cutlasses, stones, sticks, and other implements to cause mayhem following government failure to re-nominate the former MCE.

According to him, supporters of the newly nominated MCE also squared up and clashed with the other group which led to the stabbing of one person, and left three others also injured.

The newly nominated MCE had to be whisked away from the scene amidst the melee.

The case has been reported to Kasoa Police Station for investigation.

No arrests have been made so far.

Meanwhile, the confirmation of the Awutu Senya East MCE was called off and rescheduled to another date due to the clash.
