Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has described his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as a divine intervention that has helped educate Ghanaians on how to legitimately acquire property.
Speaking on Joy Prime on Tuesday, October 15, 2025, the musician — born Charles Nii Armah Mensah — said what initially appeared to be a setback has turned into a positive experience.
According to him, his interaction with EOCO’s Deputy Director, Raymond Archer, following the incident, has grown into a friendship he believes was “God-ordained.”
“Raymond Archer is now my best friend because I feel God sent him for us to educate the people of Ghana on how to buy cars appropriately from the right source,” Shatta Wale said.
“Maybe people think he arrested me and all that, but what he did was God-ordained. He’s really opened our eyes to certain things.”
Shatta Wale was arrested and detained by EOCO in August 2025 over a yellow Lamborghini Urus suspected to have been stolen. The luxury vehicle was later linked to an international $4 million fraud scheme being investigated jointly by EOCO and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Investigators alleged that the car was purchased with proceeds of the fraud, masterminded by Ghanaian national Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving a prison sentence in the United States.
During interrogation, Shatta Wale reportedly failed to produce valid documentation for the vehicle, claiming he acquired it “from the street” through a WhatsApp contact known only as “Zak,” whose identity he could not verify.
The artiste was initially granted bail of GH¢10 million but remained in custody pending verification of his sureties’ properties. His bail was later reduced to GH¢5 million, leading to his eventual release.
Reflecting on the episode, Shatta Wale said he believes the experience has served as a valuable lesson for the youth.
“It’s about time the youth became wise and knew how to purchase property the right way,” he added.
