The Convenor of the One Ghana Movement, Senyo Hosi, has revealed that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was privately embarrassed by the controversial contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).
According to Mr. Hosi, Dr. Bawumia distanced himself from the deal, which he said was orchestrated by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and some close associates.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Saturday, Mr. Hosi claimed, “If Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be honest, he told me straight in my face that he was embarrassed by this arrangement [the SML–GRA deal], and we discussed it. Bawumia did not sign up to this; this is purely a Ken Ofori-Atta, Akore and Adusei matter—interestingly, Adusei’s name never comes up.”
His remarks come in the wake of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) announcement that it will prefer charges against Mr. Ofori-Atta and several other former government officials by the end of November 2025, following investigations into alleged corruption and related offences.
At a press briefing on October 30, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, disclosed that the probe uncovered serious financial irregularities involving top officials of the Finance Ministry, the GRA, and individuals linked to SML.
Those expected to face charges include:
Ernest Akore, former Chef de Cabinet to the Finance Minister
Emmanuel Kofi Nti, former Commissioner-General, GRA
Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner-General, GRA
Isaac Crentsil, former Customs Commissioner and General Manager, SML
Kwadwo Damoah, former Customs Commissioner and MP for Jaman South
