The Ministry of Youth and Sports has finally settled all outstanding bonuses owed to the Black Queens for their performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Each player received a cheque worth $9,000 following the team’s emphatic 7–0 aggregate victory over Egypt in the final qualifying round for the 2026 WAFCON at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.

According to Joy Sports sources, $500 was deducted as tax, leaving each player with the final amount.

The payment ends weeks of tension between the team and the ministry. The Queens had earlier boycotted two training sessions and threatened to withdraw from the return leg against Egypt over the unpaid bonuses.

After a series of meetings with senior sports officials, head coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s side returned to camp and went on to deliver a commanding performance, sealing qualification to next year’s tournament.

The players were presented with their cheques at the Erata Hotel shortly after Tuesday night’s win.

The Black Queens, who finished third at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco, are expected to disband camp on Wednesday, October 29, and regroup in late November to prepare for their friendly match against England on Deember 2.
