As part of moves to contribute more to the health sector, St Karol School of nursing, an Accra based private nursing university has roped in advanced plans to admit over 4000 successful free senior high school graduates. The idea is to add on to the many dedicated health professionals in the country who are willing to put Ghana first, the founder of the institution, Dr. Caroline Ackim has said.
“We are also looking at how we can help the graduates accomplish their academic and professional ambitions, by expanding the university’s infrastructure and other logistics to be able to admit more students year on year”, she added.
As part of the plans to give equal opportunities to the many WAEC WASSCE graduates, the school is giving every interested student an opportunity to experience their BSc Nursing Degree program from the 22nd of September to the 9th of October for free, she noted.
This initiative was muted in consultation with various stakeholders who have identified the lack of proper career counseling and guidance as the major causes of unemployment in the country.
“Most students enter the tertiary institution for the reason that a degree will help them secure a good job; there are no laid down career guidance protocols to assist them to make decisions that matched their strengthens and interest with their passion and future prospects; most of them are pursuing degree courses that offers them pure frustration. Many undergraduates have little or no interest in the courses they offer.
This free three weeks’ period is opened for all SHS graduates to aid the participants receive free career guidance, free insight into nursing, enhanced first aid skills, and free auditing of BSc. Degree in Nursing programme.” She added.
The founder further revealed that the institution has several plans and assistance for SHS graduates and nurses who are desirous of topping-up their diploma RGN qualifications.
Additionally St Karol has taken an extra step of partnering and supporting a remedial school that assists students with defective grades to improve and qualify for the BSc Nursing programme. “It is our collective desire to develop strategies that will give special assistance to each solitary student to attain worthy personal goals. We make these sacrifices so that these students exceed expectations and not have their education truncated prematurely” She stated.
St Karol School of Nursing is a private nursing university located off the Malam Kasoa highway from the old barrier towards old Bortianor in Aplaku Aayalolo in Accra. St Karol School of Nursing has trained and graduated several students who are absorbed in private and public hospitals all over the world. The school is accredited by the National Accreditation Board, approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Admissions are in progress for the BSc Nursing programme for WAEC WASSCE graduates and top up for diploma holding nurses in RGN.
