The family of the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Stephen Ayensu Ntim, has warned the rank-and-file of the party to stop playing politics with the health of the national chairman.
The family, in a strongly worded statement, expressed misgivings about the recent pronouncements of some party faithful about the issue.
“The strength and wellness of wellness of every man rest in the hands of the Almighty. We will urge individuals and groups who belong to the party he leads and beyond to desist from politicizing the health status of Mr Ntim,” the family stated in the release dated 9 June, 2025.
The release, signed by an unnamed Public Relations Officer (PRO) further warned the leadership of the NPP and all who intend to ‘bundle’ Mr Ntim to chair an upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to desist from doing so.
The statement cautioned that “The family is aware that the New Patriotic Party is convening a National Executive Committee meeting this week, which would be chaired by Mr. Ntim, even though the leadership of the party is aware of his recent health condition.
“Let it be on record that the family is not enthused about this move and will resist any attempt to bundle Mr. Ntim to that meeting.”
The family further cautioned all NPP leading members who seek to take political advantage of Mr Ntim’s health issues to desist from that as the “still have fresh memories of the late President, Prof. Evans Atta Mills, how it was handled and how it ended.’
Recall that pro-NPP news outlet, Asaase Radio sparked the controversy when it published that the current NPP Chair won’t seek re-election.
Asaase News had claimed that insiders clarify that the 65-year-old chairman intends to serve out his term, which ends in 2026.
The news outlet claimed that sources close to the inner circle of Mr Ntim cite his declining health as a central factor in the decision.
The publication has since been the basis of rumours and statements concerning the health of the Chairman, a development that the family say they abhor.
