Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has step up its campaign on the effective wearing of nose masks among the trading public as the nation continues to battle the novel coronavirus.
According to the Group, wearing a mask saves lives and if everyone wears a mask, the country could drastically reduce cases of COVID-19.
The President of TAGG, Kwadwo Amoateng in his address to the media underscored the importance of wearing of nose mask at all times.
He said, even if people feel fine and consider themselves healthy; they must always “MaskUp” to protect themselves and those around them.
He said the COVID-19 Safety Campaign as launched in the Accra Central Market by TAGG and its partners including Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Access Bank, LCB Worldwide Ghana, etc., encourages the trading public to follow important public health mitigation measures such as wearing a nose/face masks when in public and when doing their businesses.
“COVID-19 is far from over, and I don’t want us to go backwards, whether it’s wearing a mask, social distancing, practicing good hygiene, or staying home when we’re sick, these simple steps continue to be the best defence against the virus. So, let’s step Mask Up and Bring COVID Down. Protecting yourself means you’re protecting your friends, your family members, your co-workers, and your fellow traders and customers. Each and every one of us has it in our power to slow the spread of COVID-19,” he told market traders.
On her part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Mrs. Delese Mimi Darko espoused the healthy relationship that exists between the FDA and TAGG and indicated that in order to continue in that spirit, there is the need for members of both institutions to stay safe, healthy and alive.
She said the education drive being undertaken by TAGG is a Nobel one aimed at fighting Covid-19 in Ghana.
“The FDA commends you for the consistency over the years in mobilizing the informal sector to assist government and financial institutions to generate data that would boost government revenue generation drive through effective stakeholder engagement to support business and encourage foreign direct investments in Ghana,” she said.
She also mentioned that FDA remains focused on its Zero Tolerance Policy and that beginning next month, all imported products must be registered before importation.
Mrs. Delese Mimi Darko also urged the public to adhere to all the safety protocols so as to collectively, bring COVID-19 down.
