The Tema Traditional Council (TTC) has issued a stern warning to Carlos Ahenkorah, saying it will not hesitate to sack him when he visits the palace.

According to the Traditional Council, the Tema West Member of Parliament (MP) has never respected the Council.

Should he, even, go to the palace in the company of President Akufo-Addo, Nii Amarh Somponu III, who is the Shipi of the TTC, did not mince words saying that the elders of the council “would politely show Carlos Ahenkorah the exit in order not to embarrass the President.”

Nii Somponu III, on behalf of the TTC, told Daniel Titus Glover, who is the MP for Tema East, the resolved position of the TTC, when the MP called on the council at Tema Newtown to make a donation towards the Homowo Festival.

After their brief exchanges of pleasantries and discussing a few important developmental issues, Nii Amarh Somponu III, speaking Ga, said: “But let me be clear with you and say this once again: we (TTC) do not want to see Carlos Ahenkorah, your (in reference to Titus Glover), here at the palace. His demonstration of attitude since he became the MP for Tema West towards us (TTC) is clear that he doesn’t respect or recognise us and the paramountcy.

“If we see him at the palace, I can bet you that we will embarrass him in the full glare of the people. If, on the other hand, he plays smart to accompany the President to this place or our event, we will politely sack him to save the image of the President.”

For about three minutes after Nii Somponu III had expressed the pain of the TTC and their decision to embarrass the Tema West MP, the Conference Room of the palace went dead.

Garnering some breath to speak, Titus Glover, wearing a huge smile, pleaded for clemency and added: “I will call my brother (Carlos Ahenkorah) to have a word with so that, as soon as possible, whatever the matter is would be resolved for the sake of peace and development. You are our elders, and so I plead for pardon…”

But, Nii Somponu III sharply cut in, saying: “We have not tasked you to deliver our message to him (Carlos Ahenkorah). We have openly told you this because you have always revered the stool and paramountcy since you became MP. But your friend, we wish him well.”

Titus Glover was at the palace in the company of some Tema East Constituency NPP executives.

The media, after the indoors meeting between the TTC and their guests, threw a microphone and mobile recorders to Nii Amarh Somponu III on why the TTC had barred Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah from the palace or any public event it would organize.

He began: “Tema is one big family, but has three political constituencies, i.e, East, Central and West, but one paramouncy. However, since he became MP, Carlos Ahenkorah has never, respectfully or officially come here to show us courtesy.

“He has been MP for Tema West for four years, and his actions clearly demonstrate that he disregards us. Maybe, he has a different Tema paramountcy he reveres.

“His party went to the primaries, and the delegates gave him another term. We congratulate him, but if his first term has seen his demonstration of disregard for the Tema Stool, we don’t need a soothsayer to tell us how he will conduct himself towards us when he wins the general parliamentary elections on December 7 for his second term as MP,” Nii Amarh Somponu III explained.

He said Kofi Brako, MP for Tema Central, like Carlos Ahenkorah, has demonstrated the same attitude towards the TTC, “but the TTC is not concerned about Kofi Brako, because he lost in their primaries, therefore, he cannot be MP for the next four years.

“But I want to reiterate that the TTC doesn’t want to see Carlos Ahenkorah anywhere here at the palace or our public event. If, on the other hand, he accompanies the President to this place or our public event, we will politely walk him out,” Nii Somponu III repeated.
