Madam Comfort Adika, an occupant of a plot of land at Madina in the Greater Accra Region lived happily and fed from the rent of the land until a fortnight ago; when officials from the La Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly stormed the place and destroyed virtually every structure on the land, under the guise that she did not have permit.
She is however accusing Dr. Amoh Tobin, the business tycoon of being the brain behind the demolition, an accusation her own family members have debunked as untrue.
The land located at a prime area in Madina, the paper gathered, was bequeathed to the fourteen children of the late Simon Adika, of which Comfort is inclusive.
According Madam Comfort Adika, the land is situated close to the market which is good for doing business and all but she is against the sale of her late father’s property.
“I don’t see why we should sell a parcel of land our father left behind for all of us where we have all established our businesses, but that “we suggested that we build shops and share among ourselves but years later we were not seeing any sign, meanwhile my elder brother has collected money from people who also have their containers on the land,” Comfort alleged.
Few years later, she said, her brother brought a letter informing them to vacate the place in the next twenty-one days “which we didn’t understand, so I confronted him and he didn’t say anything tangible so someone advised me to consult a lawyer to assist me”.
“I quickly run to court to place an Injunction then I had a phone call from Tobinco begging me to take the injunction off and he would offer me anything I want and also that, If I could get a shop and would rent it for me but I refused, “ she alleged.
Comfort continued: “I have change lawyers four times. Recently we went to our hometown and the elders of the family decided to take up the case and resolve it but they were angry that a property our father has left behind should not be sold so they gave the two lawyers some time to talk things over”.
“Then few days ago, Madina Council came to me demanding my permit and said if I don’t have one I should vacate the place, and I told them that I don’t have one and that the case is in court.”
Meanwhile, about 6 siblings of the Adika family last Wednesday stormed the office of the New Crusading GUIDE and their response were fast and thick.
Led by Edward Adika, the family said that the Atinka Media Village owner was innocent and had no hand in the troubles of their sister, Comfort.
“Comfort is wicked but we won’t say anything more. All we want to say is that Tobinco has no hand in what is going on. Indeed we approached him to come and lease the land but he has not given us any money. Comfort knows what he is getting from that land that is why she doesn’t want us to lease out the land but you are not going by the agreement you had with the family.”
