In a significant show of support for Ghana’s creative industry, Honorable Dzifa Gomashie (MP), the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, has congratulated Ghanaian casting director Mawuko Kuadzi on his historic win at the 40th Artios Awards.

Mawuko Kuadzi, Chief Exevutive Office of MK Casting, had secured the prestigious Best Casting for a Commercial award for his work on the NFL Super Bowl commercial “Born to Play,” becoming the first African to achieve this global recognition.

The Artios Awards ceremony, hosted by the Casting Society of America (CSA), was held simultaneously across three cities; New York, Los Angeles, and London, with Mr. Kuadzi receiving his award at the New York event.

The Minister’s congratulatory message, posted in the comments section of a social media post announcing Kuadzi’s win, has been widely celebrated as a strong signal of support for the creative economy.

Her simple yet powerful comment, “Congratulations,” carries significant weight, especially coming from a newly appointed minister under the current government.

This gesture is seen as a promising sign of a stronger collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture and the creative sector, offering hope for increased government backing for Ghanaian talent.

In response to the Minister’s congratulatory message, Mawuko Kuadzi expressed deep appreciation for the recognition and support from Honorable Dzifa Gomashie. “Receiving a congratulatory message from the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture means a great deal to me and the entire creative community,” Kuadzi said.

“Her support signifies hope and a renewed commitment to the growth of Ghana’s creative economy. It reinforces the belief that our work is valued and that collaboration between the government and the creative sector can lead to even greater achievements for Ghana on the global stage.”Kuadzi added,

“This moment is not just about my win but about the potential for what we can achieve together as a nation. I am hopeful that this is the beginning of a stronger partnership that will empower more Ghanaian creatives to excel and showcase our talent to the world.”Mr Kuadzi’s win has drawn widespread acclaim, with a host of renowned Ghanaian and African celebrities joining in to celebrate the historic feat. Veteran actor Fred Amugi, award-winning actress Lydia Forson, Award winning actresses Ama K. Abebrese, and celebrated filmmaker Peter Ritchie, were among those who took to social media to commend Mr. Kuadzi.

Nollywood star Ramsey Nouah, Film star, Gloria Sarfo, and and veteran actress, Mynna Otto also expressed their pride and joy at the recognition of African talent on such a prestigious platform.

Mr. Kuadzi’s achievement marks a significant milestone for African cinema, signaling a shift in the global entertainment landscape where African talent is increasingly being acknowledged.

Industry experts believe this recognition will pave the way for more international collaborations, funding, and opportunities for African film projects. It also highlights the urgent need for increased investment in the continent’s creative arts sector to nurture and support emerging talent.

Nana Dwomoh-Doyen Benjamin, Executive Director of the African Chamber of Content Producers, emphasized the importance of African governments partnering with individuals like Mawuko Kuadzi to drive the growth of the creative industry. “Mawuko Kuadzi is a trailblazer, and his accomplishments should inspire governments to support initiatives that showcase African talent on the global stage,” he stated.

Mr. Roger Quartey, a veteran African film maker and the head of production for UTV, was full of praise for Mr. Kuadzi’s achievement. “Mawuko’s historic win signals that with proper support, African talent can thrive internationally. This achievement calls for African leaders to invest in the creative arts sector, ensuring that African stories continue to reach and inspire global audiences”, he said.
