Nii Ashifri Ashong (1), the Mankralo of Amlahia in the Adenta Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, is angry and complaining about how his human rights was violently violated and trampled upon with impunity by two police officers, Bawa and Ankomah.
The two officers who are stationed at the police headquarters in Accra.
According to him, they abused the constitution and the laws of Ghana by detaining him and Ashong Kojo, (III) the Chief of Amlahia at the Nima Police station for more than 48 hours.
He said they were arrested from their palace at Amlahia by police officers from the police headquarters under the pretext of ‘orders from above’ and detained at the Nima police station.
The Mankralo of Amlahia indicated their statements and finger prints were taken and processed for court without the police officers telling them what they had done and who was the complainant in the matter.
At “Court 6” in Accra, he said, he kept asking the prosecutor and the police officers handling the matter what was their offence but were not given any response.
Unfortunately, Nii Ashifri Ashong (I) said the court did not sit or work and so they were detained again and spend the night at the Nima police station and were released the following day at 3pm.
He said they later got information that it was Mike Ocquaye, the former Speaker of Parliament who was the complainant in the matter.
The Former Speaker of Parliament accused them of selling someone’s land, a claim, the Mankralo of Amlahia vehemently deny.
He was not happy about the conduct of Mike Ocquaye, saying he should have brought the matter to their attention and hear their side of the story before if he deemed it fit to report the matter to the police he can do so.
Nii Ashifri Ashong called on officers of the Ghana Police Service to investigate matters that comes before them before making an arrest and not take money from complainants and do a poor and unprofessional job.
Mankralo of Amlahia said he has instructed his lawyers to officially write to the Inspector General of Ghana Police, George Akuffo-Dampare on the conduct police officers, Bawa and Ankomah so that disciplinary actions can be taken against them.
He also said he has given express orders to lawyers to institute human rights violations case against Bawa and Ankomah at human rights court in Accra.
