Posters of Francis Addai-Nimoh sprung up over the week in many parts of the country including Volta, Bono, Eastern, Savanna and other regions of Ghana. The posters which had the picture of the two-term MP for Mampong constituency, had the inscriptions “new energy, new hope, 2024” on them.
This is coming on the back of recent pronouncements of the 2014 NPP flag-bearer aspirant to the effect that he has intentions to contest to become the party’s leader ahead of the 2024 general elections. “I shall contest to become the party’s flag-bearer when nominations are opened”, he told Umaru Sanda of Citinews during an interview at the just-ended NPP conference in Greater Accra.
It is however emerging that some of the posters of the NPP stalwart are being torn down. As at the time of filing this report, some of the posters at Nkwawkwaw in the Eastern region had been torn down. We cannot confirm who are those behind the tearing down of the posters. Office of Francis Addai-Nimoh has declined comments on the matter.
It appears the posters were sponsored by a group of people calling themselves “Friends of Addai-Nimoh (FAN)” as indicated on posters.
It would be recalled that in 2014, the soft-spoken politician emerged third after contesting with Akuffo-Addo, Alan Kyreremanteng, and other bigwigs. While many people expected him to be part of Akuffo-Addo’s government coming from a rare background of civil engineering and owing to his commitment to the NPP’s campaign in 2016, he was sidelined.
The NPP shall be going to polls soon to elect a flag-bearer after it successfully selected new national executives. Known faces like the vice president, Dr Bawumia, trades minister, Alan Kyeremanteng, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyepong, former energy minister, Boakye Agyarko are all expected to contest.
