Mr. Gabriel Adovoe Kwabla Tanko Kwamigah Atokple, a distinguished member of Ghana’s Council of State and the youngest serving member, has extended a helping hand to victims of recent tidal waves that ravaged parts of the Volta Region, particularly Agavedzi, Amutinu/Salakope, and nearby communities.
In a gesture of compassion and solidarity, Mr. Atokple donated essential relief items including bags of rice, sugar, boxes of spaghetti, and cooking oil.
The presentation took place at his residence in Weta, where he met with key officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and local government representatives.
Receiving the donation were Mr. Dodzi Kofi Aidam, Deputy Regional Director of NADMO; Mr. Vacus Dogbe, NADMO Regional Operations Officer; and Hon. Kumawu Sylvester, the Assembly Member for Amutinu/Salakope—individuals who have been instrumental in leading and coordinating response efforts in the affected communities.
Mr. Atokple described the donation as a “small way of showing solidarity” with families who have suffered the loss of homes, property, and livelihood due to the destructive impact of the tidal waves.
“This moment serves as a reminder that, in times of crisis, community and compassion are our greatest strengths,” he said, offering words of comfort and encouragement to the victims. “To my brothers and sisters, parents and grandparents in these affected areas, please know this: YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Together, we will rebuild, recover, and rise again.”
The donation has been widely appreciated by residents and local authorities, who commended Mr. Atokple for his swift response and humanitarian concern.
Officials from NADMO assured that the items would be fairly distributed and directed to the most vulnerable victims across the affected communities.
The recent tidal waves, which displaced dozens of families and caused widespread damage in parts of the Ketu South Municipality, have renewed calls for long-term coastal protection measures.
