Acting Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has raised alarm over what he calls a disturbing decline in ethical standards within Ghana’s legal profession, following a shocking case of a lawyer allegedly stealing a phone in court.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Moot Court facility at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Law School on Monday, July 21, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie described the trend of misconduct among some lawyers as “shameful and troubling.”
“I happen to be the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council, and the sort of infractions and ethical breaches that appear before us make you wonder where the world is heading,” he said.
The Acting Chief Justice urged aspiring lawyers to uphold the integrity of the profession, likening the shock over such misconduct to the disapproval of students who turn up at school poorly dressed.
