The man currently languishing in police custody after a viral video showed him brandishing a cocked gun on an unarmed civilian has been identified as a police officer, and he has defended his actions with feeble explanations.
He is No. 41457 G/Sergeant George Kpordzo, a dispatch rider of the regional MTTD of the Cape Coast police.
Moments after his action, Sgt. Kpordzo took to a police Whatsapp platform he was a member to mumble,”Honourable House members, good morning to you all, good morning,” then launch into the twi dialect transcribed as “this is, er Kpordzo, I was in the, I was the one who involved in the er, this incident. You all know know journalists or media men or civilians, their character. The way the thing happened that was not where they started the video from, but for all I wish you pray for me.”
Contrary what was seen in the viral video; where the police officer was dishing out hefty slaps and even breaking the mirror of the civilian’s car, Sgt. George Kpordzor said he was rather attacked with a cutlass and he in turn was using any means to “keep him down for assistance from the police.”
He said the driver crossed and blocked him on the highway, causing traffic jam and that the man insulted him when he alighted from his car.
Later in the day, Kpordzo reported the incident to the Police in Kasoa in the Central region and police records say Sgt. Kporzor reported to the station with “mark of assault at his back… and reported that today (1st April, 2022) he was driving his Toyota Corolla, No. GW 2959 -13 from Winneba direction towards Accra.
That about 14:30pm on reaching a section of the road at Fetteh Kakraba, opposite Pacific filling station near Budumburam, a certain man driving Ford saloon car with DV plate No. 2359G, suddenly crossed his car and accused him of careless driving which resulted in a confrontation
The Police said the driver, whose name was only identified as Andy made a call which attracted some men to the scene where one of them; holding Cutlass assaulted Kpordzo.
It was the purported assault with the Cutlass which Kpordzo said made him pulled a pistol to scare his assailants, and he managed to escape from the scene.
Meanwhile, nowhere in the video was there evidence of Cutlass wound or wounds on Kpordzo, rather, he was one landing hefty slaps on the chin and face of the other driver.
