Fixing The Country Movement has advised former President John Mahama to take a cursory look at the uncompromising corruption activities he superintendent during his time in office before giving his so called corruption advice to President Akufo-Addo.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, Convener and Founder of Fixing the Country Movement, Ernest Kofi OwusuBempah indicated that former President John Mahama few months after suffering that humiliating defeat embarked on a Thank You Tour to cover his Shane of being the first sitting President with the ugly legacy of losing an election by popular votes.
“This is all to do with his ambition to return to the seat as Head of State, but failing to examine his own tenure in office; the ugly legacy of being the first ever President to be booted out of office in a popular election mainly as a result of running a government that had no agenda than the siphoning of the public purse,” he said.
He said, there had been several corruption deals that overwhelmed the administration of the NDC and John Mahama which have serious dents on the image of the country in the international front.
He said: “This is the man who the former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu had concluded that he is the beneficiary architect of the stinking AirBus deal, of which official UK government records refer to him as Government Official One.”
Touching on some of them, Ernest OwusuBempah indicated that the stinking Airbus Scandal, the Kanazoure Ford Vehicle scandal, the over 200% overpricing of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange, and the construction of the Kumasi Airport.
He also named the Petrobus scandal, the use of 6 million Dollars for the painting of portraits of former presidents on buses and the Sitcom Sibton Switch System scandals, the purchase of ambulances without medical facilities, Cocoa roads deals, GYEDA among others.
He averred that the AirBus SE has agreed to pay nearly $4 billion to resolve foreign bribery and other charges with authorities in the United States, Britain and France.
OwusuBempah also noted that AirBus confessed paying the said consultant through a third party when its Compliance Unit raised flags about the close relationship between the consultant and the top elected official who was a key decision maker in the purchase of the military aircraft.
He averred that Airbus corruption is the biggest case ever and that payment of bribes were made and received and the beneficiary was GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL 1.
“Documents were falsified in making the payments to disguise the payment of bribes to GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL 1. GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL 1 is on the record of the Court as the recipient of the corrupt proceeds from this transaction. A matter of fact, Paragraph 136 of the US Court documents actually described Government official 1 as having a reputation for bribe taking,” he stated.
He questioned John Mahama’s take on corruption when indeed, he is the Government Official 1 in the AirBus Scandal saying that, it is that same “Mahama whose government signed onto a half-baked contract of $1.2 billion for the Ghana Retail Payment System Infrastructure? Are we talking about the same Mahama who took bribe (Ford vehicle) from Kanazone Contractors?”
On the Sitcom Sibton Switch System issue, Owusu Bempah pointed out that the company has just lost arbitration for $478 million from Ghana for revoking that agreement.
He said, the Akufo-Addo administration did a far more enhanced project for only $4.5 million. “$1.2 billion to $4.5 million.”
The Movement, according to him, will in the coming days petition the office of the Special Prosecutor to re-visit the Airbus deal and hold those found to be part of that deal, especially former President John Dramani Mahama accountable and deal with them appropriately.
According to him, the Fixing the Country Movement is of the firm belief that John Mahama is the government official 1, referred to in the Report that came along with the Airbus scandal.
According to the Movement, the most dehumanizing aspect of corruption under the watch of John Mahama is the purchase of ‘ambulances’ with no medical facility.
Ernest OwusuBempah said, in spite of that, extra luxury was afforded as gifts to reignite the dwindling careers of showbiz stars with V8 Toyota Vehicles and fat bank accounts to prey on the perceived naivety of the Ghanaian masses.
The Movement described former President John Dramani Mahama as the Donpapa of Corruption has therefore has no moral right to caution or advise the incorruptible Akufo-Addo who is doing so well in fixing the country which the John Dramani Mahama led government destroyed.
According to the Movement, no leader has corrupted himself than John Manama who has put Ghana to shame.
They believe that their petition will see the light of day.
