Mining magnate Angela List has been conferred with the 2025 Global Power Female Award, an exclusive award which celebrates the most accomplished businesswomen in the world at a ceremony in New York in the United States of America. The prestigious awards, organized on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly is a collaboration between the Global Power Forum (GPF), a premier high-level platform convened by the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (CELD) and the African Leadership Organization (ALO). The annual event features Heads of State, First Ladies, Global Business Leaders and Change Makers from Africa, South America, the Caribbean Islands and the global diaspora.

Angela List, Chief Executive Officer of  Nguvu Mining is the first Ghanaian to ever win the award which is designated as “a tribute to trailblazers who have boldly reshaped the narrative of leadership, empowered communities and created enduring change.

This year’s GPF was headlined by former Tanzanian President Dr. Jackson Kikwete and the current Prime Minister of the Bahamas H.E Philip Davis. Other prominent speakers included H.E Judith Suminwa, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and H.E Lucrecia Peinado, First Lady of Guatemala. Also in attendance were Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone and President of OAFLAD amongst other dignitaries.

The recognition was, according to organisers of the event, on account of Angela List’s “journey, accomplishments and bold leadership”.

Ms. List was also inducted into the Global Power Women Network (GPWN), a premier platform of influence, capital and strategic partnerships for women in the world.

Gold Standard Leadership

Angela List’s involvement in mining spans at least twenty 25 years within which she has demonstrated excellent business leadership and entrepreneurial fervour to get to the very top of the mining chain. Nguvu Mining, the company she founded and leads, operates assets in Mali, Liberia and Burkina Faso amongst others. Adamus Resources Limited, one of the most prolific mines in Ghana and Northern Ashanti Mines which comes on stream in the first quarter of 2026 are part of Angela List’s portfolio.

Nguvu Mining currently produces about 150,000 ounces of gold from its combined operations around West Africa. This will be ramped up to at least 200,000 ounces when Northern Ashanti goes into full production.

“I can only thank my staff at Nguvu Mining. Their commitment to our operations, adherence to mining safely and shared prosperity in communities we operate is what drives me. We are devoted to the communities we work in” said Angela List.

Bullish Gold, More to Communities

Gold prices have been on a spectacular run in the last twenty-four (24) months with prices currently hovering around $3,800 an ounce. This is a 194 % jump from October 2023 when an ounce of gold was priced at $1,990 per ounce.  With the current shutdown of the United States government over its debt ceiling, analysts project that the price of an ounce of gold could break the $4,000 mark. The rise in gold prices has been nothing short of a wonder after several traders and banks speculated 2025 would end on a high of $3,000 sometime in January this year. The windfall may mean more return on the cost of production, but Madam List says the communities within which they operate will see a corresponding increase in contributions to their welfare.

“We are passionate about our host communities. We are already giving scholarships, building schools, empowering traders with financial assistance and many more. We have an inbuilt mechanism for raising our commitment to our host communities. Whenever gold prices rise, they automatically get a raise in our contribution to the communities. We are committed to changing the narrative in mining by making a profound difference to the lives of our people.” Angela said.

Foremost African Female Mining Entrepreneur

Angela is building an unmatched profile in running multiple assets in different jurisdictions, a feat that makes her the most standout female African mining entrepreneur. While she counts her blessings, she is inspired to hold open, the doors of opportunity for more female entrepreneurs and miners to reach the top.

Speaking on the challenges of the African woman in climbing up the ladder of the mining industry, Angela noted;

“You know our industry is male-dominated and nobody gives you an inch. There are challenges but at Nguvu, we are here to go the long haul. All industries have their unique challenges. Mining is no different but with the right leadership, regulatory compliance and access to capital, Nguvu will remain at the very top of the mining chain.”

She added further, “There can be no excuses. I am blazing the trail for many more women to become mining entrepreneurs. We have to perform as is expected of us. I know all of this will come to some good very soon because there will be many more women in the mining space as engineers, management suite executives and mining professionals”

2025 Global Power Forum

The Global Power Forum (GPF) this year uniquely co-joined the Global Power Women Conference (GPWC) and the International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL) into one powerful inclusive event reflecting a strategic evolution – recognizing that global power today is about influence, partnerships, and collective impact. The Forum has become the most competent amplifier of voices, bridging the various continents of the world and strengthening women’s leadership and co-operation in the Global South.
