Omankrado of Gomoa Fetteh Nana Kwesi Quansah, popularly known as Akwesi Alhaji, has denied rumours on social media and some electronic media houses that, he is involved in winning sand at Gomoa Fetteh seashore in the Central Region.
If we recall, Adom News reported that some groups of people have been winning sand at Gomoa Fetteh seashore, which is posing treats to some residents and developers if the Sea overflow its boundaries.
Addressing the media, Nana Kwesi Quansah says, he has given the names of those who are doing the illegalities to the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East District Assembly so he is surprised that some people are trying to tarnished his image.
According to him elders and people of Gomoa Fetteh, township risk losing their lives and property if the government does not take action to stop illegal sand mining in the area.
“The affected communities are coastal areas. The shorelines and thereby result in tidal wave devastation” he said, adding that Sand mining is being linked to coastal erosion, habitat destruction, the spread of invasive species, and impacts on fisheries, according to various studies.
Nana Kwesi Quansah noted that some investors are threatening to withdraw from further developing acres of land acquired genuinely from them.
The worried Chief appealed to authorities, specifically the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Minerals Commission, to combat the sand-winning activities within the shortest time possible to prevent the sea from eroding the affected coastal stretch.
