“The Ashanti Region is the Political “World Bank” of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which must not be joked with by the party in any competitive national elections like the up coming December 7 presidential elections .
In one of his statements on his social media page recently, Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah outlined the importance of an NPP running mate this time coming from the Ashanti Region, the region with the most electoral votes apart from Greater Accra region.
Odeneho kwaku Appiah, the former Afigya Kwabre South Constituency Chairman of NPP believes the region is behind one person.
Without stating the name of the said individual, COKA as he is popularly called believe there is only one popular person in the region who has the potential of becoming a good running mate to Dr. Mahmadu Bawumia because of the numbers he has in the region.
Simply put the said individual is a grassroot person who is liked by many in Ashanti region.
“Democracy is about numbers. When you visit social media, market places, churches, when you go to funeral grounds and ask whose name they have been hearing for funeral donations and also ask those around you, it will inform you that 99.9% of the people in Ashanti Region are behind one name.” He said.
COKA believes such a candidate will help the NPP’s fortunes in the election, as he appealed to Dr. Bawumia not to be perturbed about the barrage of criticisms which will come at him because of a particular candidate he will select.
“People will suggest others for their personal interest but you should remember that your running mate is about you. The only person you need is someone who is popular and has changed the lives of others to add more votes to yours, nothing more, nothing less”.
In COKA’s words, whilst concluding his statement, he told Dr. Bawumia to be bold and make his decision. For whoever he selects the criticisms will come.
“Whoever Dr Bawumia selects as his running mate, Ghanaians will talk about it, being negatively or positively. Even Jesus Christ, they criticized him when he was doing good to mankind.”
“His Excellency, Dr Bawumia, please ask your boss, Nana Akufo Addo when it was time for him to select his running mate in 2008 if he had listened to some people in and out of NPP, could we have had improved digitalization and many other achievements spearheaded by Dr. Bawumia office everywhere in Ghana by now?”. He quizzed the Vice President as he empowered him to be firm and bold.
“ l can boldly tell you that base on research that l am privy to, out of the 16 regional ministers, only 2 are uncomfortable with that particular person who is the most popular candidate. Of all the majority members of Parliaments only 8 are uncomfortable with the person. 16 regional chairmen, only 2 are uncomfortable with the choice and out of the 275 constituency chairmen, only 17 are not comfortable. Those with eyes will see, those with pen will know and those with ears will hear.”
