Assin Central NDC Executives Remanded Over Press Conference Against Chairman Asiedu

Three constituency executives of the governing NDC party in the Assin Central in the Central Region have been remanded for holding press conference against the party’s regional chairman, Mr Richard Kofi Asiedu. 

The three, Andoh Ohenebeng, Emmanuel Agyapong and Prince Kwame Boadi were remanded police custody for one week by the Assin South Circuit Court at Kyekyewere Nsuayem presided over by His lordship Emmanuel Amo Yarty.

Brief Facts:

According to the prosecution, the Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Kofi Asicdu who is also the Chief Executive officer of St. Andrews Group of Schools and Companies, is the complainant.

Andoh Ohenebeng who is the first accused, is the Assin Central constituency branch secretary for the NDC while 2nd accused Prince Kwame Boadi is the Assin Central Constituency branch organizer and chairman for serial callers of the party.

The prosecution averred that on the 14/04/2025, the first accused held a press conference and alleged that the complainant paid money to influence the assembly members to reject the President’s nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive an assertion, the prosecution claimed, was fabricated.

The second accused was said to have held a press conference on 24/05/2025 and allegedly stated that complainant “has been working tirelessly to undermine the efforts of the Member of parliament for Assin Central”.

Additionally, he was alleged to have asserted that the complainant was working to unseat the Member of Parliament in the next election and also claimed complainant encouraged “skirt and blouse” voting against the Member of Parliament during the 2024 elections.

These alleged actions of the complainant were meant to cause the defeat the then candidate of the of NDC in the run up to the December 2024 elections.

These alleged statements, the prosecution claimed, “crafted by the accused persons to tarnish complainant’s political reputation”.

Formal complaint.

Mr Asiedu was said to have officially lodged a formal complaint on 4/06/2025, report to Police in Assin Fosu who proceeded and arrested the two accused persons on 24/06/2025.

During interrogations, the prosecution posited that the accused admitted to having held separate press conferences but denied making any false accusation.

However, the police statement of offence, categorically mentioned that the alleged actions of the suspect were “OFFENSIVE CONDUCT CONDUCIVE TO THE BREACH OF THE PEACE”.

Hundreds of supporters of the thronged the court lend their support to the accused executives amidst chanting of party songs  while others vowed that they will organize more press conferences against their regional chairman.
