Ghana’s Sarah Nyarko has been named the Best Player of the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Girls’ Cup, following an impressive campaign in Benin.
The tournament, which concluded on Wednesday, November 12, brought together teams from Ghana, Nigeria, and hosts Benin for the regional championship.
Nigeria emerged champions of the second edition after winning all their matches in the league-format competition, while Ghana’s Black Princesses settled for second place.
Although the Princesses fell short of defending their 2023 title, midfielder Sarah Nyarko was a bright spark throughout the tournament. The Dreamz Ladies star netted three goals — the highest by any Ghanaian — and was deservedly named the Most Valuable Player.
Nyarko featured in all four of Ghana’s matches, starting three and coming off the bench once. She bagged a brace across two meetings with Benin and found the net again in the 3–1 defeat to eventual winners Nigeria.
Her standout display in the second fixture against Benin, where she scored in Ghana’s 2–0 win, also earned her the Player of the Match accolade.
The Black Princesses are expected back in Ghana on Thursday, November 13, as they turn their focus to next year’s FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup
