The Ranking Member of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament John Abdulai Jinapor is calling on the President to show his commitment to the fight against illegal mining by first admonishing his party bigwigs and apparatchiks who are deeply involved in this menace.
The Yapei Kusawgu legislator said the impunity with thigh some leading members of the New Patriotic Party are abusing the country’s Minerals Act is worry and thus behoves of the President to show leadership by first reprimanding his own people involved in illegal mining activities in the country.
“The fight against illegal mining and distraction of our water bodies must start with the President and his party bigwigs who are deeply involved in galamsey”. He added.
Hon John Jinapor noted with worry the depletion of the Samraboi Timber enclave and other other forest reserves and water bodies around the country.
It will be recalled that the Ghana Water Company in the Western and Western North Regions have complained of issues regarding raw water flowing to the GWCL intake points in the two regions have high levels of sludge, which increases their operational and maintenance cost significantly, and makes the production process strenuous.
The Former Deputy Minister said a stern action by the President, not the rhetorics will address issues related to illegal mining activities.
