The Court of Appeal has dismissed an application by Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), CEO of the defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, which sought to stay proceedings in his ongoing criminal trial. NAM1 had filed the application alongside an appeal challenging a 2024 High Court ruling that ordered him to open his defence on charges including defrauding by false pretence, money laundering, and the sale of gold without a license.
On May 19, 2025, state prosecutors argued that the application lacked merit and was an attempt to undermine the trial process. A three-member panel, led by Justice Gbiel Suurbaareh, unanimously rejected the request.
Frederick Forson, representing aggrieved Menzgold customers, praised the decision as a step toward justice. NAM1 has indicated he may pursue an appeal to the Supreme Court on his legal team’s advice.
