The Dabehene of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council, Nana Kofi Tawiah, is at the centre of controversy following an alleged shooting incident at Sefwi-Subri in the Bibiani-Ahwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
According to eyewitnesses and other sources, a trivial issue escalated into a confrontation between the chief and Emmanuel Nkrumah, a 30-year-old farmer.
The dispute began when the victim attempted to remove a poster from the chief’s parked vehicle, which the chief resisted.
The situation escalated into a heated argument, during which the chief pulled out a gun and shot Nkrumah in the ribs.
The chief reportedly fled the scene and later reported the incident to the Anhwiaso Police Station, citing fear of a mob attack.
Nkrumah is currently on admission receiving medical treatment at Anhwiaso Community Hospital.
His family alleges that attempts are being made to cover up the incident and has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohunu, to intervene and ensure justice prevails.
Chief’s Response
In a media interview, the chief admitted to shooting Nkrumah, claiming that he acted in self-defense and believed Nkrumah was trying to attack him.
However, some town folks who spoke with the media on anonymity disputed the chief’s account, calling for justice for the victim.
