The Deputy Director of The Ghana Education Service (GES) in charge of management service, Anthony Boateng, 62, is set to retire from the civil service today, after reaching the mandatory retirement age and also exhausting the two-years contract.
Mr. Anthony Boateng, who turned 60 two years ago had a year’s contract under the former Education Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh and another one year under Dr. Yaw Adutwum, the current minister.
Despite all these, New Crusading GUIDE learnt there were attempts by element within the corridors of power to still have his contract extended but that failed to materialise.
Meanwhile, this paper is informed reliably that all directors who have hit retirement age would soon be shown the exit for caretaker personal director to temporarily man the positions while the GES goes through the process of replacing them.
Born on 16th August 1960 at Effiduasi in the Ashanti, region, the GES posted on its website that Mr. Anthony Boateng had his elementary (now Basic) Education at EffiduSi-Ashanti.
After his Ordinary and Advanced Level education, he graduated as a professional teacher and taught for some time.
Lawyer Anthony Boateng later joined the National Commission for Civic Education as a Research Officer on secondment from the Ghana Education Service.
On expiration of the secondment he reverted to the GES and served in various capacities until his current appointment as; Assistant Secretary at the GES Council Deputy Secretary, GES Council, Ag. Secretary, GES Council, Head of the Legal Unit of GES, Director for HRMD and Director for Special Education.
He is a senior Member of the Ghana Bar Association and belong to several professional bodies both locally and internationally.
It might be important to add that he has served as Ag. Executive Secretary of the National Teaching Council and among his current schedules is that he is the Chairman of the National Steering Committee on the Implementation of Inclusive Education in Ghana.
