The Deputy Minister for Works and Housing and Education Manifesto Chair for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Prince Armah Hamid, is pushing for the passage of the Occupational Health and Safety Bill into law to protect citizens and environment.
“I also appeal for the swift passage of the National Health and Safety Bill, which will provide a robust legal framework to protect our people and environment,” he stated.
Addressing the public at the Ghana Institute of Safety and Environmental Professionals (GhISEP) on Friday 27 September, this year in a Accra, Dr.Hamid started that the law would establish a legacy for sustainability, resilience, and environmental stewardship for future generations .
The Occupational Health and Safety bill , which has been pending in Parliament for nearly two decades, aims to provide a comprehensive framework for ensuring the safety and health of workers.
Furthermore, speaking at the event, under theme: Advancing Safety and Environmental Excellence: Building a Resilient Future for Ghana in the Era of Climate Change, Dr.Hamid, who is also the member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim emphasized that government is committed to tackling climate change through a series of targeted initiatives such as prioritizing the construction of climate resilient infrastructure , championing sustainable urban planning, and promoting renewable energy to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
Also, Dr. Hamid used the opportunity to call on members of GhISEP, stakeholders, and citizens to join in the critical effort in working together to raise public awareness about climate change, safety, and environmental issues.

More so, community engagement, the deputy minister adserted, plays a pivotal role in climate action, therefore, local communities must be empowered to take ownership on climate initiatives and provide them with the resources and support needed in order to succeed.
