The race for the vacant Ejisu Constituency seat in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken an interesting turn as delegates ‘hoot’ at Kwesi Nyantakyi, a former president of the Ghana Football Association, urging him to back off.
“Many years of Mr Nyantakyi being the president of the Ghana Football Association, he never showed up anywhere in Ejisu as an indigene, neither did he mention anywhere in his numerous speeches and travels all over the world anything about Ejisu, we don’t know him he must back off,” said the delegates over the weekend.
In a recent interview, Nyantakyi revealed that he had received invitations from residents of Ejisu urging him to contest for the position of MP since 2012.
However, some NPP delegates in the constituency have expressed their surprise at his sudden interest, stating that they have never seen or heard of him in any of their meetings before.
With nine individuals, including three women, vying for the Ejisu Constituency seat, the competition is fierce. Among the contenders are four-time contender Abena Pokuaa Boaitey, popularly known as ‘Ejisu Bronii’, the wife of Bono Region Chairman of the NPP, Portia Acheampong Abronye, and the current Presiding Member of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly, Helena Mensah.
Other contenders include former Presiding Member of Ejisu Municipal Assembly, Michael Owusu, the current Constituency Chairman, Kofi Agyapong, lecturer at AAMUSTED, Dr Evans Duah, and his 2nd Vice, Kwabena Boateng.
As the race heats up, it remains to be seen who will emerge victorious in the contest for the Ejisu Constituency seat.
