The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Ghana marked the 26th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s ascension to the Throne with a grand celebration in Accra. The occasion brought together a distinguished audience, including several Ghanaian dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Ghana, as well as leading figures from political, economic, academic, and media circles, alongside members of the Moroccan community residing in Ghana.
In her remarks, Her Excellency Ambassador Imane Ouaadil paid tribute to the transformational leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, describing his reign as “foresighted and forward-looking.” She emphasized how the Kingdom has been profoundly reshaped over the past 26 years through wide-ranging structural reforms across economic, social, cultural, institutional, and sporting spheres.
“Under His Majesty’s leadership, Morocco has become an emerging, modern, and prosperous nation,” she said, highlighting the impact of reform initiatives that have touched all sectors and extended across the entire national territory—from Tangier to Lagouira.
Ambassador Ouaadil further underscored Morocco’s deepening commitment to African solidarity and regional integration, noting the Kingdom’s active engagement in the continent since its return to the African Union in 2017. She referenced landmark initiatives such as the Royal Atlantic Initiative, designed to provide landlocked Sahel nations with Atlantic Ocean access, and the African Atlantic States Process, as well as the transformative African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project.
Turning to bilateral relations, the Ambassador praised the “golden era” of Morocco-Ghana cooperation, stating:
> “Morocco-Ghana bilateral relations have yielded mutual benefits and brought our two countries even closer on multiple fronts. Since January 7th, 2025, our partnership has reached new strategic heights.”
She highlighted the successful high-level visit of Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to Morocco in June 2025, which culminated in the announcement of a visa waiver agreement for Ghanaian nationals. Since the waiver’s implementation on June 6th, over 1,300 free electronic entry permits have been issued—nearly matching the 1,500 visas granted throughout the entire year of 2024.
Additionally, Ambassador Ouaadil referenced Morocco’s recent donation of 2,000 tons of fertilizer to Ghana, underscoring the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening agricultural cooperation and food security on the continent.
She also expressed Morocco’s appreciation for Ghana’s support of the Autonomy Plan for the Moroccan Sahara, describing it as the “only realistic and sustainable basis” for a mutually agreed resolution under the exclusive framework of the United Nations.
In a message delivered on behalf of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, reaffirmed Ghana’s strong and enduring relationship with Morocco. He lauded the remarkable progress made in advancing the partnership over the past 26 years and commended Morocco as a “reliable and trusted partner.”
