A Made-in-Ghana Ambassador, Emilia Arthur, has called on authorities to as a matter of urgency, fast-track the reconstruction of the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited (GTFCL) which was demolished four years ago.
The GTFCL on February 2020 demolished properties of its tenants at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra.
The demolition, according to the GTFCL is to pave way for the redevelopment of the site and that the tenants were duly notified about the development.
Several tenants at the Trade Fair Centre were destroyed by a bulldozer under the supervision of armed security personnel.
The project estimated funds of $2 billion dollars was to be solicited from the private investors.
When completed, it would become the first multipurpose trade fair centre on the African continent.
The Centre was expected to be completed in five years and it would include aviation and petroleum hub, two five-star hotels, residential and recreational facilities, convention and exhibition centres.
But four years after the demolition, construction is yet to start. Debris were on site as no contractor has been on site.
Ms Arthur, who is also the Host of The Ghanaian Kitchen Show, a cooking show, on TV XYZ on Sunday between 3pm and 4pm explained that the absence of the centre is preventing local manufacturers from having access to showcase their products.
She said this is also preventing the growth of made in Ghana goods in the country.
