The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagba, has revealed that the commitment and determination of President Akufo Addo to end the Galamsey menace is yielding great results with the seizure of over 30 excavators by the newly constituted operation halt squad.
According to Mr Ahiagba, the Operation Halt II team deployed by the Ghana Armed Forces has destroyed four and immobilised four out of the 30 excavators seized based on report from the Ghana Armed Forces.
He said the relaunch of Operation Halt II on Tuesday 11 October, 2022, to fight against illegal mining in forest reserves and river bodies should be a caution to illegal miners that nobody would be spared by the team when arrested.
Richard Ahiagba in an interview with the New Crusading GUIDE made reference to the Ghana Armed Forces statement which further explained that the Operation Halt II team also “destroyed 103 Changfan machines, nine water pumping machines, five generator sets, two fuel storage tanks and other improvised mining equipment and structures.”
Additionally, the Operation Halt II team seized six motorbikes and one motor king tricycle.
According to the GAF statement, “the operation was undertaken at Kade, Ofoase, Oda, and Pra Anom along the banks of Rivers Birim and Pra in the Southern Command Area of Operational Responsibility.”
It added that the exercise was also extended to the Central Command at Yawkrom, Agroyesum and Takorase along the River Offin.
We want to send this message across that nobody will be spared when caught in this fight against illegal mining. government is doing this to save our forest, rivers and water bodies and once somebody is caught in the line of operation that person will be dealt with according to law. so, we continue to advise people who are engaged in these acts to stop before they are caught, he said.
