Tension which could break into violence is brewing in Akwamu, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region over the activities a contractor, which appears to cower even the high and mighty in the area.
Togbe Aga Sameglo, has allegedly employed the services of land guards and also use force to enter people’s land, grade and illegally win sand, thereby creating clouds of fear and insecurity in the Akwamu area. His marauding goons-squad are also allegedly ready to spill the blood of anyone who dares question their presence on the land.
As many times as Togbe Aga Sameglo has been arrested however, this paper gathered, calls come through for his release. The Nsawam police officers, for fear of sanctions, would not disclose the identity of the persons who always call for the release of the contractor.
One lawyer (name withheld), who incensed by the spate of alleged lawlessness by Togbe Aga Sameglo, visited the area to ascertain the illegal sand winning and destruction could have lost his life if he had not fled the scene.
“When the contractor and the land guards noticed that the lawyer was taking pictures of the illegality, the land guards began to move towards the direction of the lawyer, so sensing danger he also run for his life,” an eyewitness with knowledge of the incident who wants to remain anonymous told this paper
Not even his sack on 30th September 2020, following the numerous distress calls placed to the Eastern Regional Minister, the Nsawam MCE and the National Security Office in Koforidua among others, could impressed on Togbe Aga Sameglo, to let the people live in peace.
Engaging the community members and persons whose properties have been destroyed about the contractor having been sacked, they seem not satisfied.
According to the town folks, they fear the contractor will be back to the community with his land guards to continue their terror acts. A police officer who spoke to us on anonymity said the police has several dockets on the contractor. But how come the police has not been able to prosecute this contractor?
How come the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly has not been able to halt the activities of this contractor and his land guards knowing very well of their illegality? Is someone in the pocket of this contractor?
