The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for the just-ended by-election in Kumawu, in the Ashanti region, Ernest Yaw Anim, romped with victory after the polls yesterday.

Ernest Yaw Anim polled fifteen thousand, two hundred and sixty (15,260), representing 70.91%, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) contender, Kwasi Amankwaa and the two independent candidates- Kwaku Duah 1 and 2, wobbled with three thousand, seven hundred and nineteen (3,719) representing 17.28%, two thousand, four hundred and seventy-eight (2,478), representing 11.52% and sixty-two representing 0.29% respectively.

Twenty-two thousand and ninety-five (22,095) voters out of the 34,799 registered voters, turned up to vote in the by-election in Kumawu from all the seventy-five polling stations.

The polls were largely peaceful, watched by a heavy police presence, with the NPP and NDC deploying high-level officials as polling officials.
