A former executive of the Tema East constituency branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Stephen Ashitey Adjei, alias Moshake, has reiterated that former President John Mahama’s quest for re-election is driven by desires for more money.
According to him, “that is the reason why he is still running for President almost 8 years after he and his family announced to Ghanaians that he would never run for president again.”
“But this time, Ghanaians are wide awake. Mahama will not fool us into voting for him so that he and his family can come and make money for themselves again,” Mr. Ashitey Adjei wrote in another analysis of happenings within his party.
Popularly called Moshake, the former NDC Executive released his latest write-up in response to the former President’s call on Ghanaians to reject the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the next elections on grounds of supposed non-performance and corruption.
While refusing to hold brief for the NPP, Moshake said Mr. Mahama is the last person with any moral rights to talk about political corruption.
“We remember the scandal about ‘Government official No. 1’ in the Airbus shady contracts; we remember the inflation of the Circle interchange contracts, the Ford car gift from a certain Burkinabe contractor and the fact that late former President Mills had to stop and probe the purchase of aircrafts for the Ghana Airforce because when a certain John Mahama had been tasked to oversee the purchase, the contract had become embroiled in corruption,” Moshake wrote.
According to him, these scandals constitute “just the tip of the iceberg of the monumental corruption under Mr. Mahama and his family at the expense of the Ghanaian tax payer.”
Moshake however vowed that such self-serving acts of corruption will never be tolerated again and so “any vision or mission to deceive Ghanaians into voting for John Mahama again should be abandoned.
“This time we are very wide awake.”
According to the former NDC Executive, “the average Ghanaian voter does not trust John Mahama” and that, “this is (so) because in his time in opposition Mr. Mahama has not been able to deodorize his reputation as a corrupt man who served the interest of himself and his family while serving as president from 2012 to 2016.”
Consequently, he added, “there is this consensus among Ghanaians that, no matter how bad his opponent, it would be better to trust anyone else but not John Mahama to govern this country again.”
