President John Dramani Mahama has praised the steady rise in Ghana–China trade, confirming that bilateral commerce reached US$11.8 billion in 2024, representing over 7% growth from the previous year.
In an interview on CGTN’s Leaders Talk hosted by Wang Guan, President Mahama said China remains Ghana’s largest trading partner, and the new zero-tariff policy being implemented is expected to further boost economic activity between the two countries.
He described the policy as a key opportunity to expand trade, noting that it comes at a time when Ghana and China are marking 65 years of diplomatic relations.
The President also reflected on his recent discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and welcomed China’s Global Governance Initiative, which aims to enhance cooperation with developing nations amid rising geopolitical tensions.
Mahama commended China’s ongoing support for Africa, particularly in infrastructure, industrialisation and vocational training, adding that Beijing continues to be a major partner in Ghana’s modernisation efforts.
According to him, Ghana’s shift from political independence to full economic transformation will rely heavily on strengthened collaboration with China, especially in trade, investment and technology.
The interview forms part of broader efforts by both countries to deepen economic and developmental ties in the coming years.
