Renowned Gold Dealer Maxwell Boakye has made history by becoming the youngest Council of State member in the country’s history at age 32.
The Tarkwa-based businessman got 17 of the 28 votes cast in the first round of the Western Regional Council of State election.
Boakye, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Palasco Group of Companies, won the role over eight other contenders. His closest challenger, Akwasi Nsiah-Awuah, polled 10 votes, while Adjei Clement polled a single vote. The other six contenders scored zero votes
Speaking after his historic victory, Boakye praised the delegates for believing in him, emphasized the importance of youth in governance and policymaking, and vowed to work for the Western Region’s regional and national interests.
“This is a victory for the youth, and I am committed to ensuring that our voices are heard in governance,” he stated.
“President Mahama has shown that he is ready to work with youth in his government. Our elders have had enough time to be on the previous Council of State. The time has come for the youth to have a chance to get a voice in government. Everyone here knows my hard work. I promise to work for the youth and region,” he said
The election was held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the RCC Conference Hall in Sekondi, and significant regional stakeholders and delegates attended.
