Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resource(MLNR) and Member of Parliament(MP) for Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency Hon. George Mireku Duker last Friday 16 th August 2024 in the company of the sports Minister, Western Regional Minister, some top officials from Goldfields Ghana Limited and ‘Nananom’ of the Traditional area commissioned the 10,400 capacity TNA Stadium in Tarkwa.
The magnificent TNA Stadium was solely funded by the Goldfields Foundation, a subsidiary of Goldfields Ghana Limited at a cost of $16.2million.
Speaking in an interview with MP for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Hon. Mireku Duker stated that “this historic moment brings me joy, seeing an idea I conceived and initiated, getting the necessary support, for the benefit of my people”.
“Together with six (6) Astroturfs I have constructed in the Constituency, Tarkwa-Nsuaem is now a key sports infrastructure hub in the country to unearth talent and contribute to socio-economic development of Tarkwa and it’s environs”, he added.
Hon. Duker espoused that his vision is that, Tarkwa cannot be a victim of the natural resources curse, but rather, he will enjoin all stakeholders to ensure that, Mineral wealth, through corporate social responsibilities of the Mining Companies and Government, is invested in critical infrastructure and job opportunities for the teeming youth, having in mind that, the mineral is non-renewable, and sustainability is key.
“I am humbled by the commendations by all constituents on my significant role in the establishment of the beautiful TNA stadium,” he acknowledged. He also hinted that he has further, initiated the formation of a consortium of Mining Companies in Tarkwa to build synergies towards the construction of a befitting Airport for the good people of Tarkwa.
The Tarkwa Airport when completed will boost trade and tourism potentials of the Municipality. Hon. Duker also seized the opportunity to pledge to his constituents that he will continue to deliver cutting-edge developmental projects for the constituency in appreciation of their trust and believe in him.
