Four armed men who were allegedly contracted to kill the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison, have been arrested by the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command.
They are Saddick Abubakar, Gordon Kunya, Isaac Addea and Dauda Fatau.
The gang when apprehended mentioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Agona West constituency, Paul Ofori Amoah, as the person who hired their services and brought them to their hideout.
The NDC Parliamentary candidate who booked the hotel for the armed men and was therefore considered an accomplice, took to this heels when he got information that his men had been arrested.
However, little did he know that the men and women in black uniform had closed up on him and before he realized, they had handcuffed him and taken into police custody.
He has written his police caution statement.
The four were picked up by the Police at the Elohim Hotel in Agona Swedru at about 10:00pm.
A knife, cutlass, a lighter and two packets of Razzler were found on them when a search was conducted in their hotel rooms.
According to the Police, two opened cheque in the sum of GHS5,000.00 each were also found on suspects Dauda Fatau and Gordon Kunya.
A very close source to the Gender Minister told the New Crusading Guide newspaper that the armed men were arrested by a police patrol team just when they were about to set off to execute their given task.
“The men were in a very high spirit at the time they were arrested. They were smoking Indian hemp (wee) and had cutlass and some other weapons on them”, he noted.
According to our source, they had inside intelligence that some men had been contracted to kill the Gender Minister who is also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Agona West constituency when she visits the constituency this weekend.
The contracted armed men, our source noted, were then identified and monitored until they were arrested by the Police.
They are currently being interrogated by the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command. The Gender Minister, we are told, is also safe and sound.
The Police have in a statement, confirmed the arrest of the four and that of the detention NDC parliamentary candidate.
The incident follows the murder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) and parliament candidate for Mfantseman West constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford.
Mr. Hayford was gruesomely murdered by armed robbers when returning from a campaign last Friday, October 11, 2020.
About five suspects have since been arrested in connection to the murder of the Mfanstseman West MP.
The arrest of the four in Agona Swedru seems to give credence to the national Chairman of the NDC, Elder Samuel Ofosu Amposo, who is on tape to have sounded caution to make the country ungovernable through alleged contract killings among others.
Meanwhile,The NDC parliamentary candidate for Agona West, Paul Ofori Amoah has ridiculed claims that he and his boys are plotting to kill the sitting MP, Mrs. Cynthia Mamle Morrison who is also the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.
He has therefore asked the general public to “disregard” any such report, which he believes is being concocted by the NPP in the area.
“There is nothing like Paul wanting to kill somebody, or wanting to kill any MP. We are focused, our eyes are fixed on the price, as we wanting to win this election. And they know very well that we are winning, all these antics and the rest doesn’t mean anything to me,” Paul Amoah said in a video released on Sunday, October 18.
The Swedru Divisional patrol team arrested four suspects – Saddick Abubakar, Gordon Kunya, Isaac Addea and Dauda Fatua – on Saturday, October 17 lodging in a hotel at Agona Swedru in the Central region.
According to a police report, the arrest was effected “based on intelligence gathered, that some heavily built men (machomen) whose movement looks suspicious were lodging in a Hotel at Swedru.”
Items found on them include a knife, cutlass, a lighter and two packets of Razzler. The police also found on them two cheques in the sum of GH5000.00 each.
“Meanwhile suspects detained and exhibits retained for further action.”
But Paul Amoah in his video recounted, “they found me walking with my friends and I booked a place for them, quickly they went and search them”. He added that he was home when he received a call around 11pm that his friends have been picked up by the police.
“I just had to go there and go and see them; so family disregard any issue claiming [I’m plotting to kill] the Agona West MP. They must get serious; they just hold on to anything and do unnecessary stuff…The NDC is focused and we know what we want to achieve.”
