The Chief of Jopanya, in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region, Nene Tei Djahene Korabo, has been accused by the people of New Kordiabe of using armed Landguards to persistently attack them.
According to the residents of the area, the Chief is claiming ownership of their lands and thus using armed landguards to terrorize them on daily basis.
Even though New Kordiabe is far away from where the Chief rules, he (Nene Korabo) is illegally claiming that the area falls within his jurisdiction.
Addressing a press conference in the town yesterday, Chairman for the New Kordiabe Landlords Association, Joseph Akamah, said, “We have been forced to halt all our daily activities due to the severe acts of harassments being meted out to us by the armed Landguards hired by Nene Korabo to attack us”.
According to him, occupants of the land, legally acquired them many years ago and expressed worry over why they should be prevented from developing their properties.
“There is a court injunction on the entire land, but Nene Korabo and his team of landguards have put the law into their hands and persistently attack us in the town,” Mr Akamah stated
He alleged that the Chief has partnered his son, one Benjamin Nargeh who was the Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in both the 2020 and 2024 general elections for the Shai-Osudoku Constituency to harass them.
He called on the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, who doubles as the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), President John Dramani Mahama, and Minister for the Interior and various authorities to come to their aid before things escalate.
“We equally have the men to battle the armed men, but we just don’t want to put the law into our hands and retaliate,” he disclosed.
He stated that the illegal activities by the landguards are creating unsafe environment for them as legitimate. Citizens of Ghana.
“Schools within the town have been closed down due to hourly fired arms within the New Kordiabe Township,” the Chairman disclosed.
Meanwhile, when contacted the NPP 2024 PC, denied all the allegations and called on the people to abide by the court ruling.
