The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Birmingham Chapter in the United Kingdom, Prince Kwadwo Osei, has described reports of factionalism within the party as nothing new, saying internal divisions have existed since the return to multi-party democracy in 1992.
According to Mr. Osei, popularly known as One-in-Town, the emergence of camps ahead of the NPP’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, should not be allowed to undermine the party’s unity and collective interest.
He made the remarks during the NPP Birmingham Chapter’s end-of-year gathering held in Birmingham under the theme “Strategy for Growth in Peace, Unity and Purpose.”
Mr. Osei recalled that similar internal contests during the era of former President John Agyekum Kufuor and the late Professor Adu Boahen did not weaken the party, and urged current party members to manage their differences in a manner that strengthens the NPP.
He stressed that the party must remain united as it positions itself for the 2028 general elections, adding that Ghanaians expect the NPP to present a strong and cohesive front.
The Birmingham Chairman further called on party faithful to support whoever emerges as the flagbearer after the upcoming primaries, noting that the interest of the party must always take precedence over personal ambitions.
Mr. Osei, a PhD student at the University of Wolverhampton, also commended members of the Birmingham Chapter for their commitment and sacrifices, and expressed appreciation for the support he has received since assuming office as Chairman.
