A New Patriotic Party(NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, who is also the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) and founder of FKP & RALD Investment Limited, has paid a courtesy call on the Weija Gbawe Member of Parliament, Hon, Tina Mensah and also visited victims who were affected by the recent flooding in Weija and Tetegu in the Ga South municipality, in Accra.
The businessman and energy expert took it upon himself to visit the affected areas hit by the flood in Tetegu and to access the situation, know their needs in these hard times and how best he could be of help.
According to him, urban flooding has become a major problem in many parts of the world due to its social, economic and environmental impacts.
“Flooding do occur in this which adversely affects livelihoods, property, infrastructure, lives and even render many people homeless”, he explained.
Apart from destruction of properties and economic losses due to flooding, people living in flood prone areas are at high risk of contracting diseases such as cholera, malaria, amongst others.
Mr. Nsafoah said this in an interview briefly with the reporter during his visit to Tetegu.
He spoke with the Member of Parliament(MP) for the area and in a conversation ,Hon. Tina Mensah, disclosed that there had been response from government to support persons affected by the flood but it was insufficient, and that there are a lot more to be done.
” We are talking about over six thousand persons displaced, which means that they need some relief items urgently. It could happened to anyone, it is not easy to be hit by disaster, the tremor alone is a different thing on its own,” the Executive Director of INSTER stated.
“I have good intentions for the people and so I would do what I can do to support them in this hard time, anybody can also support with the little they have to help manage the situation should kindly do so”, Mr. Nsafoah Poku appealed.
The Member of Parliament therefore appealed to the business community, religious bodies, organizations, philanthropist to support get more relief items for persons affected by the flood.
He agreed with the suggestion from the people that monitoring the catchment areas before opening the dam would help curb the flooding.
As an energy expert and experienced entrepreneur, he understands social and economic issues better especially in times like this.
