The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagba has condemned the recent chaos in Parliament as a calculated effort by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to disrupt the governance process and create an environment conducive to their political gain.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Mr. Ahiagba alleged that the NDC’s recent disruptive behavior in Parliament was part of a well-orchestrated plot to undermine the government’s authority and position themselves for power at all costs ahead of the 2024 general elections.
He said the NPP has uncovered a detailed strategy document, authored by senior NDC operatives, which lays out the opposition party’s calculated efforts to destabilize Parliament and create an impression of governmental failure.
According to him, the document outlines a multifaceted plan to exploit every parliamentary session as a battleground, designed to incite chaos, heighten public tension, and erode confidence in the ruling government.
“The recent occurrences in the country, particularly the Parliamentary impasse and the general disruptive ways of the NDC over the period, confirm the implementation of a Secret Document we have obtained that provides strategic guidelines for winning power through foul means in the 2024 general elections.
“Our verifications show that it is a legitimate operational document of the NDC. The document consists of eleven chapters, each directing the NDC on various disruptive, unfair, and outright crude tactics to aid its chances of capturing power in 2024,” he said.
The Director of Communications highlighted instances from the document detailing how the NDC intends to use parliamentary disruptions as a tactic to undermine the NPP’s credibility pointing to specific references indicating that the NDC has been planning these disruptive actions for months, seeking to exploit any situation to provoke confrontation in Parliament.
He also accused the NDC of exploiting social media platforms to amplify false narratives about the government, particularly concerning economic challenges and social policies.
“Their approach is to create a narrative of despair and hopelessness, hoping that the public will lose faith in the NPP’s ability to govern,” he explained.
He called on the NDC to put the nation’s interests first by engaging in responsible political conduct. He urged the opposition to focus on constructive engagement rather than disruptive behavior. “We call on the NDC to conduct themselves with the dignity expected of a party that seeks to govern this great nation. Our democratic institutions are not playgrounds for political mischief,” he stressed.
Mr. Ahiagba further appealed to the media and the public to be vigilant and not be swayed by the NDC’s alleged attempts to manipulate public opinion through disruptions in Parliament. He stated that the NPP remains committed to transparency and accountability and will continue to provide evidence of the NDC’s strategies as necessary to keep the public informed.
