The Incumbent Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Hon. Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, has proven his worth as the most popular and favorite MP in the Greater Accra region based on the high vote rates he recorded in the just ended parliamentary primaries held by the National Democratic Congress
The celebrated MP polled 934 votes out of 1,142 to win 24th August 2019 primaries. His main contender, Ephraim Nii Tan Sackey polled 145 to place second with Nii Ayittey Tagoe placing third with 53 votes. It is the highest number of votes to be recorded by a single candidate in the just ended primaries.
The Greater Accra regional parliamentary primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) recorded a massive entry, with 118 aspirants picking nomination forms to contest at the various constituencies.
The aspirants, comprising 20 women and 98 men, went to the polls to seek the approval of the electorate in the 34 constituencies in the region to represent the party in the 2020 parliamentary election. Dr Okoe Vanderpuije is loved by the people of his constituency and Ghana because he is generous to all and always ready to assist people in need.
The steady and decent rise of Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije in Ghanaian Politics has been fascinating to all, including international politicians. This has thus, attracted many people including the youth into politics.
Hon.Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, is one of the best politicians and statesmen in Ghana whose contribution to environmental development, education, waste management and human resource development is well known and recognized by the good people of Ghana. He is regarded as a very popular politician and Member of Parliament whose leadership role in politics goes beyond partisanship to statesmanship.

Dr. Okoe Vanderpuije won the first inaugural edition of the prestigious president Jose Eduardo dos Santos Africa Best Mayor Award which had its focus on 7 major areas of sanitation, Education, Community upgrading, Transportation, Economic Empowerment and Beautification. The awards recognizes, celebrates and rewards city leaders who display exemplary qualities in leadership and vision, innovative thinking, management capabilities’ and integrity.
Hon. Dr. Okoe Vanderpuije goes all out to please the ordinary people. With a mixture of toughness and experience, he blends into a person with outstanding leadership qualities. He is the first African to be elected president of the world alliance of mayors. Prior to that he was chairman of the NDC south Carolina and Chicago chapters , founding member of the North American Coordinating Council of the NDC and the inter chapter coordinator of the NDC North American coordinating council .
