The long-lasting peace existing among the chiefs and people of Kyekyewere, a community within the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region, is currently under threat by a taskforce allegedly operating under the instructions of the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin, King of Akyem Abuakwa.
The taskforce was always fully armed, attacking people and harassing them daily over their legally acquired properties.
The taskforce comprising machomen are always seen in fully-branded Okyehene’s Palace stickers.
The persistence attacks on the people by the taskforce have forced several people to vacate the community for their safety.
Narrating the worrying incidence to the media, the Assemblyman for the Kyekyewere Electoral Area, Paul Simade said, “our lives are currently in danger due to the presence of the fully armed taskforce claiming to be sent from the Okyehene’s Palace”.
He also disclosed that innocent poor farmers’ farms have been seized and some destroyed under the authority of the taskforce.
The Assemblyman pleaded with the Okyehene to, as a matter of urgency stop his men if they (taskforce) are coming from his Palace as claimed.
He also stated that the entire land was acquired by their forefathers in late 1845 from the people of Apedwa and could not understand why they should be attacked.
Mr. Simade called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Atorney General as well as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene.
“We also have the men to battle the so-called taskforce but we only don’t want to take the law into our own hands as law abiding citizens of the Ghana,” he stated.
According to the Assemblyman, the actions by the taskforce on them have been in existence for about two years without any responds from the office of the Okyehene.
The Assemblyman condemned the action by the task force, claiming “it is not only unlawful but detrimental to human rights in the area”.
