The Chief Executive officer of the Petroleum Commission, Egbert Faibille, Jnr has said the operations of the Ghana Welding Bureau will facilitate the development of welding science, technology and engineering in Ghana, and promote the optimum use of innovation in welding and joining technologies.
Mr Faibille made this known yesterday at the launch of the Ghana Welding Bureau at the Ghana Shippers House in Accra.
According to him, GWB will ensure that welding in Ghana is done without any harm and the standard GWB seeks to introduce will help cure such dangers in the welding sector.
Mr. Egbert added that “GWB will provide international welding examination to welders.
It will also offer training and qualifications where new technologies will be introduced such as robotics, laser, hybrid laser, magnetic core welding, etc to welders in Ghana “.
‘Again, GWB has come to train, qualify and certify welders in various categories such as; Journeyman Welder L1 (JWL1), Journeyman Welder L2 (JWL2), International Welding (IW), International Welder Practitioner (IWP) International Welder Specialist (IWS), International Welder Inspector (IWI), International Welder Technologist (IWT), International Welder Engineer (IWE).
During its launch in July 2021, there have been a number of activities that GWB has indulged in. This include assessing all welding facilities in Ghana, developing policy guidelines, develop their constitution, has establish GWB governing board, incorporate with Registrar General’s Department, the registration of GWB with International Institution of Welding (IIW).
It is with this notable activities that the Petroleum Commission has established an agreement with the Takoradi Technical University (TTU) for a portion of their land on campus to be constructed into a world class welding and pipe fitting center where all welding and pipe fitting training will take place.
In this case, Aker Energy has decided to give US$5 million for the construction of the centre.
Notwithstanding, the petroleum commission has given GH3, 897,500 to sponsor 150 beneficiaries under training. These trainees will graduate in April 2022 after their internship.
These trained professionals will be job qualified for the upstream petroleum and allied industries right after completion.
The Petroleum Commission is calling on other cooperate bodies and persons in the welding profession to join the Ghana Welding Bureau.
That’s the mining sector, automotive sector building and construction sector, PRA, ECG, Ghana Gas and a host of others are all welcomed to join GWB for a better and professional welders in the country.
Ghana welding Bureau is a non-profit, non-governmental body that seeks to represent the welding profession in Ghana and also be responsible for the certification and registration of companies and individuals involved in welding and allied operations.
